Our Sustainable Challenge and Solution

The Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation partnered with the team at Window Insulation® Ltd following the Innovator Pitch Day in February 2024, to address our sustainability challenge on improving indoor air quality, condensation, ventilation, energy efficiency and climate resilience in our endowment’s real estate portfolio.

The Property Team represented by Aurora Barrett, Development Surveyor, was attracted to the accessible and affordable product the Window Insulation® team demonstrated on their patented window coating. The product ticked boxes with its solutions of improving windows thermal resistance, reducing overheating, reducing heat leakages and reducing ultraviolet rays. As well as their approach to retrofit on existing buildings which can save energy, money and carbon, the low disruption and speed of execution for their product addressed the Foundation’s sustainability challenge.

Case Study - Oxford University

Oxford University turned to our partners to design the A1 Zero Carbon solution that would enhance comfort without compromising the integrity of their historic buildings. The Retrofit® Window Coating was chosen for its ability to reduce overheating, retain heat during colder months, and block 99% of UV light. Placed in lighting systems in false ceilings.

Implementation

Our team conducted a thorough assessment of the buildings to identify the windows most affected by UV light and heat. The Retrofit® Window Coating was then applied swiftly and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to the university's daily operations.
